Facebook has come under fire again for blocking a photograph of a 16th-century statue of Neptune, the sea god, because it is "sexually explicit."

The famed statue stands in Piazza del Nettuno in the Italian city of Bologna and was chosen by local writer and art historian Elisa Barbari to illustrate her Facebook page called "Stories, curiosities and views of Bologna."

But the social media company told Barbari that the picture violated its privacy policies.

In a statement, Facebook said: “The use of the image was not approved because it violates Facebook’s guidelines on advertising. It shows an image with content that is explicitly sexual and which excessively shows the body or unnecessarily concentrates on body parts." Read more...

Bangalore's 'Night of Shame': Mass molestation in India's Silicon Valley on New Year's Eve

It is a familiar narrative for India. And that is the most unfortunate part.

Women party-goers on New Year's Eve were harassed and molested en masse in the city of Bangalore, India's Silicon Valley.

What is most stunning, not in a good way though, is that drunken molesters could not be contained by even 1,500-plus policemen deployed in the area to ensure an "incident-free" New Year.

The attackers came in large numbers and wreaked havoc in the middle of the night across two prominent streets in the heart of the city.  Read more...

Twitter's head of greater China has left the company, just eight months after joining the social network.

Kathy Chen, who joined Twitter's Hong Kong office after two five year stints at Microsoft, announced her departure on New Year's Eve in a string of tweets.

She said she had successfully helped to grow Twitter's advertising business in China, so "it's time to pursue my next dream."

She noted that over the past two years, Twitter has seen four-fold growth in advertisers in the greater China region.

7/12 Now that the Twitter APAC team is working directly with Chinese advertisers, this is the right time for me to leave the company.

A fish and chip shop has gone above and beyond in the customer service department.

On Friday, Feeley's Fish and Chip Shop in Belfast, Northern Ireland received an interesting order from a sick customer begging for cold and flu tablets. The restaurant posted the order ticket to its Facebook page, noting that it was good to see customers making use of the additional comments section in the order form.

The customer, who has asked not to be named when contacted by Mashable, was sick in bed when she placed an order for food so that she could ask the store to pick her up some medication on the way.  Read more...

Kobe, LeBron offer Ronda Rousey support after social media mocks UFC loss

UFC legend Ronda Rousey disappeared immediately following her stunning 48-second loss to Amanda Nunes on Friday, but that didn't stop fans on social media from crafting some of the meanest digs at the fallen champ ever.

No, we're not going to recap most of them, just trust us, it got pretty nasty pretty quickly. Even Nunes — mostly gracious and professional following her win — weighed in on Twitter with a Photoshopped image of Rousey as a crying baby in a stroller with Nunes hovering over her.

Some of the digs at Rousey weren't completely shocking given her apparent disrespect of past opponents (not shaking hands, etc.) and recent refusal to address the media. But despite that, several major sports stars rushed to Rousey's defense following her defeat by offering public shows of support.  Read more...
