Twitter backtracks to the old version of TweetDeck

The old version of TweetDeck is back.

Last week Twitter launched a new iteration of TweetDeck and it's already doubled back. On Monday, July 3, the official Twitter Support account announced, "We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck," with the caveat that in 30 days, only Twitter Blue subscribers will have access to the tool. However, as The Verge reports, the old TweetDeck is back with no announcement of its return by Elon Musk, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, or any official Twitter account.

TweetDeck2.0 added several functionalities including video docking and a Tweet composer feature, but it didn't maintain key features like the Activity Tab and TweetDeck Teams which allows users to share accounts without sharing passwords making it unpopular among users.

TweetDeck launched as a free, independent app in 2008 before being acquired by Twitter in 2011. Aimed at Twitter power users and professionals, TweetDeck allows users to view tweets in multiple customizable columns. Given that the app has been free for 15 years, no one is excited for it to become a paid feature.

It's unclear how long the old version of TweetDeck will be available, so use it while you can.
